India's Aadhaar project to provide all of the country's residents with a unique identification number continues to spark debate througout the world as citizens, politicians and journalists debate its benefits and privacy concerns. On October 11, the European Union Biometric Matching System (EU BMS) went live. The primary purpose is to enable biometric enrolment for visa applications and biometric verification for visa usage. Daon’s software products and services are core for this project. The DaonEngine enables 1:N searching for each visa application against an AFIS system and 1:1 matching for each visa verification.

New Zealand Post is targeting new revenue opportunities by providing identity data collection and verification services utilizing solutions from Daon, a leading provider of biometric identity assurance software and services.
Phase one of the project launched in August 2011 and is being closely monitored by the company. New Zealand Post’s next step is to install a high quality photo-capture system in approximately 150 of its 280 Postshop-Kiwibank branches by early 2012. New Zealand Post expects to provide identity services for multiple public and private sector clients.
