Program objective is a system to support processing of Visa applications across 27 EU member states, identifying potential duplicate applications to prevent Visa shopping and providing a biometric authentication service to confirm the validity of a visa and the visa holder.

Daon was the key sub-contractor to an Accenture-SAGEM consortium.  Daon provided a multi-country SOA-based biometric services system for Visa and border management and implemented a large-scale and highly available matching infrastructure supporting multiple matching types, vendors and scenarios. The DaonEngine based application simplifies the delivery of Biometric identity services to member states from this centralized environment.

  • Designed to support Visas, Asylum, Schengen (Border) requirements and be extensible to sharing Criminal information
  • Support visa application, issuance and usage – once all member states are connected
  • DaonEngine selected after a rigorous Technology Benchmark in 2006
  • Search and Inserts > 1800 an hour  (1:N with ANSI NIST EFTS processing)
  • 7,000 1:1 verifications per hour (1:1 matching with finger template creation and algorithm fusion)
  • High availability target of 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 + days a year with an availability of 99.99%
  • The system has been designed for a population of 70 million
